The Library

CBS James’ Street is part of the JCSP Demonstration Library Project. This means that we have a wonderful library, with a full time professionally qualified librarian working there as a support for students and teachers. Our school is one of 30 schools in Ireland who are part of this project.

Our Library is a warm, welcoming and dynamic space and is a centre of learning and development for our students. It is here that reading and writing skills are developed, information skills cultivated and imaginations nurtured. We believe that all our students can achieve success in their education and so we have put programmes in place which support them throughout the Junior Cycle and beyond.

Active Learning Space

Stocked with an exciting collection of carefully chosen books and other resources we aim to entice and engage our students. The library is a creative active learning space designed and run specifically to improve literacy levels and enhance the learning experience of JCSP students. While prioritising literacy development of JCSP students, the library also provides a service to the whole school including a well stocked teacher resource sections. Literacy and numeracy are the main focus of our class work in the Library. Using different resources we ensure that these two areas are a common theme across the curriculum.

The Library is a hive of activity every day, from 8 in the mornings until 4:30 in the evenings. The students have classes in here all day long, and they enjoy this space so much that they also come in to clubs before school, after school and at lunchtime too.
