The Student Council of CBS James's Street has been officially established in 2021. All class groups are represented on the council by two members who have been democratically elected within each group. Each candidate must make a speech to include their own qualities and strengths, and with the help of Class Tutors elections are held in the first term. The Student Council had the difficult and brave task of setting out their constitution, along with hopes and goals for the coming academic year. Officers are appointed annually to positions democratically by the council, and they carry out duties associated with the roles of President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary, PROs and committee members.
The student voice is exceptionally important to our school and the council is a vehicle in which it can be heard appropriately. They conduct surveys, speak to classes about their opinions, ideas and concerns. They hold fundraisers for charities, school equipment, awareness drives and are the student representation for important events and occasions within our school and community. The commitment is at least one class period plus their own free time once a week. They work closely with the Parent's Council and report to the Principal. Many additional tasks are carried out after school hours. Ms K Hill is the teacher representative facilitating the Student Council.
